OBERMEYER received commission for Kuwait Airport

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait (DGCA) has commissioned OBERMEYER with consultancy and project management services for the implementation of the existing master plan projects as well as for future measures at Kuwait International Airport (KWI).

DGCA chairman H.E. Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Saba and Dr. Ioannis Kiru, Managing Director of OBERMEYER Middle East, signed the contract on 20 February 2019.

Kuwait International Airport (KIA) is the country's only civil airport. It is located at the hub of Europe, Asia and Africa. Now it's reaching its capacity limits. According to forecasts, demand will triple in the next few years.

The five-year contract provides for the management and administration of ongoing and planned projects. It is based on the "Master Plan 2012", which includes the expansion of the airport over three decades. With an improved infrastructure 25 million passengers per year should be able to be transported in 2040. The contract also includes the conception of a new development plan.

Among the projects to be implemented contemporarily are the construction of the third runway and a new “observation post”. Possible future projects include the overhauling of the western runway, the construction of three more runways, two more towers and five passenger terminals.
