New construction and shunting of the Burgweinting motorway bridge

The Burgweinting motorway bridge is the central element of the six-lane expansion of the A3, the so called "Europaautobahn", near Regensburg. With a length of 200 m, it crosses the mainline railway tracks and the marshalling yard Regensburg-East with a total of 23 tracks.

As leader of an engineering partnership, OBERMEYER was entrusted with the site management and construction supervision of structural engineering, traffic facilities and rail construction supervision.

The new construction of the two bridge sections to be replaced will be carried out entirely over an operating railroad and associated overhead line systems. A special method of incremental launching is being used as construction type.

In October 2020, the first cycle was completed after around ten hours of shunting. After demolition of the old bridge structure, shunting could be continued at three-week intervals. On December 16, 2020, the new bridge finally reached the western abutment. A total of 1,680 tons had to be moved.
